Pest Control in Lisbon, Maine

Lisbon is two kinds of housing in one town. The Census Bureau counts 630 mobile homes here, about one housing unit in six, alongside a Lisbon Falls village core where half the town's pre-1940 houses stand. Those two building types let mice, rats and carpenter ants in by different routes, so a Lisbon inspection starts by working out which one you live in.

What we handle13

Lisbon is a town we want to work in, and we have no Lisbon job on record yet, so this page sticks to what the public figures say about the town’s houses and its ticks, and what we would look at first.

One town, two housing patterns

The village of Lisbon Falls and the rest of Lisbon are one municipality. The Census Bureau draws Lisbon Falls as a census-designated place inside the town, which lets the two be compared, and the comparison is useful.

According to the American Community Survey for 2020–2024, Lisbon as a whole has 3,884 housing units. Of the 908 built in 1939 or earlier, 469 are in Lisbon Falls. So the village, with under half the town’s people (4,267 of 9,750 on the same survey), holds just over half of its pre-war houses. It also holds 513 of the town’s 960 renter households, and 360 of the 431 units Lisbon has in two-, three- and four-unit buildings.

Outside the village the picture changes. The same survey counts 630 mobile homes in Lisbon, 16.2% of all housing units, and 2,488 detached single-family houses. The town’s median home dates from 1973, and the 1960s alone account for 622 units, the most of any decade after the war.

That split matters because the two building types fail in different places.

What we would check on a Lisbon property

In a Lisbon Falls house built before 1940:

In a mobile or manufactured home:

That second list comes from work we have done elsewhere, not in Lisbon. In Augusta we had rats digging under a trailer and getting in from below; the fix was exterior bait stations and filling the burrows. The same pattern is what we would look for first under a Lisbon mobile home. The rodent control page explains how trapping, baiting and follow-up visits are handled, and rodent exclusion covers the sealing side, which is priced as its own line on the quote.

Carpenter ants in the older village stock

A house in Lisbon Falls that has stood for ninety years or more has usually had a gutter overflow, a porch roof leak or a window sill that held water at some point. Carpenter ants do not cause that damage; they move into wood that is already soft from it.

Signs worth a call are large black ants indoors in March or April before anything is active outside, small piles of coarse sawdust under a window or along a baseboard, and winged ants coming out of a wall in spring. The carpenter ant control page describes the treatment. The part that keeps the colony from returning is the moisture finding, and we write that up so it can go to whoever fixes the trim.

Ticks in Androscoggin County

There is no reliable public tick figure for Lisbon on its own, so the honest starting point is the county.

Maine CDC’s 2024 annual tickborne illness report, which it labels preliminary, records 153 Lyme disease cases among Androscoggin County residents. That is a rate of 132.7 per 100,000, still under the statewide 230.0 but up from 40 cases in 2020. The same report counts 45 anaplasmosis cases and 20 babesiosis cases in the county last year.

The UMaine Cooperative Extension Tick Surveillance Program tested 131 blacklegged ticks submitted from Androscoggin County in 2025. Fifty of them (38.2%) carried Borrelia burgdorferi, the Lyme bacterium, and 20 (15.3%) carried Babesia microti. The lab notes that these are ticks the public chose to send in, so they show what the ticks here carry rather than how many there are.

For a Lisbon lot with a wooded or field edge, the work is concentrated where the mowed grass meets leaf litter and brush. The tick control page sets out what a season of visits involves, and the Maine pest calendar shows when ticks, mosquitoes and wasps each peak through the year.

Before the cold sets in

Mice look for warm buildings as Maine nights turn cold in the fall. Under a mobile home, warm air leaks out through the floor deck, and that is where they will try first. In a village house it is the sill. An inspection before the first hard frost finds those openings while they can still be closed from the outside.

Getting started in Lisbon

We are based in Lewiston and licensed and insured. Because Lisbon is new ground for us, the first conversation is a straightforward one: tell us the address and what you are seeing, and we will say what the inspection would cover.

The Androscoggin County page covers the rest of the county, and the Lewiston page describes the city where the business is based.

Nearest confirmed work

We have not yet done a job in Lisbon that we can point to. The nearest confirmed work on this site is in Lewiston, where a carpenter ant problem was found, treated and reported gone by the customer, and in Auburn, where worn garage door seals turned out to be the rodents' way into a house.

Common questions

Do you treat Lisbon Falls as a separate town?

No. Lisbon Falls is a village inside the town of Lisbon, and the Census Bureau reports it as a census-designated place within the town's figures. An address in the village and an address elsewhere in Lisbon are the same call. Same-day emergency service is available; call or text for the next opening.

Mice are getting into our mobile home. Where do we start?

Underneath. The skirting, the plumbing and duct penetrations through the floor, and anywhere the belly wrap is torn are the places to check before anything is set inside. Interior trapping without closing those openings just catches the first few.

How bad are ticks in Lisbon?

There is no town-level public figure we can stand behind, so we work from the county. Maine CDC counted 153 Lyme cases among Androscoggin County residents in 2024, and UMaine's Tick Lab found the Lyme bacterium in 38.2% of the county's blacklegged ticks it tested in 2025.
